‘A false balance is an abomination to the Lord but a just weight is his delight’ … is the motto inscribed above one of the archways leading into Greenwich Market. Turns out it’s a quote from Proverbs and dates back to 1837 when Greenwich Market was dedicated to selling fruits and vegetables.
Choosing what and where to eat in Greenwich is quite a challenge as it is all so good. From mouthwatering sandwiches and cakes at Rhodes Bakery, delicious snacks at the Bar du Musee deli, or Greenwich Tavern with its lovely views towards the park. Nelson Road is home to a host of eateries from Noodle Time to Mambo Latino, and Greenwich even has a fine dining option at the Spread Eagle on Stockwell Street.
For value try Cafe Rouge or Pizza Express, or any of the great pubs serving up good English grub. Try whitebait at the famous Thameside Trafalgar Tavern, steak and Meantime London Stout pie at the Greenwich Union, a tasty Indian at Mogul or romantic Italian at Bianco 43 - the choice is yours.
